UK Trade estimates
The latest set of regional trade statistics has been published for the third quarter of 2009. This data is primarily sourced from Customs systems and Intrastat returns.
Exports
- The total value of UK exports for the 12 months to September 2009 was £223,800m, a decrease of £22,183m compared to the 12 months ending September 2008. This represents a significant decrease of 9% over the previous year.
- The number of Exporters based in the UK was 48,454.
Imports
- The total value of UK imports for the 12 months to September 2009 was £306,791m, a decrease of £33,450m compared to the 12 months ending September 2008. This represents a significant decrease of almost 10% over the previous year.
- The number of Importers in the year totalled 70,630, a decrease of 8.6% from the same quarter last year.
The next release of trade figures will be on 11 March 2010. This will include revised data for 2009 plus a set of new regional trade statistics figures for the final quarter of 2009.
