Registering for self assessment
The process for individuals who wish to register for self-assessment and are not self-employed has been changed.
With effect from 21 September 2009, the process now involves a new registration form (SA1) and a new central team who will process all applications.
Individuals who need to register may do so by contacting the new central team directly on 0845 900 0444 or by completing the SA1 form and sending it to:

A national insurance number is required to complete the form. HMRC will shortly publish additional guidance for individuals (such as expatriates) who need to register but who do not have a national insurance number.
