HMRC’s News update for employers
HMRC have published the latest edition of their online Employer Bulletin which is aimed at employers and agents. The bulletin which is usually published three times a year contains useful payroll related information which includes the following:
National Minimum Wage – With effect from 6 April 2009, employers who fail to pay staff the minimum wage will be subject to automatic penalties ranging from £100 to £5,000. Any employees who have been underpaid are entitled to claim arrears based on the current minimum wage going back up to six years. The current national minimum wage for adults over 22 years old is £5.73 per hour.
Also covered in the online news letter is information relating to improvements to HMRC’s PAYE software system, student loans, starter and leaver notifications, paying by direct debit and changes to medical certificates.
