HMRC Draft Charter
HMRC have produced a draft Charter for consultation. This follows the 2008 Budget where the Chancellor stressed the importance of HMRC having a Charter. The 2009 Finance Act will contain provisions giving statutory backing to the Charter.
Earlier feedback suggested that the Charter should comprise one short high level document that was no longer than one A4 page.
This first draft therefore contains just four sections covering:
· the role of HMRC
· what customers can expect from HMRC
· what HMRC expects of its customers
· where customers can find information when things go wrong
The related consultation document also includes an indication of alternative content and asks for feedback as to which approach would be prefered. HMRC have also asked for feedback on the draft Charter itself.
Responses are required by Tuesday 12 May 2009 and should be sent by email to charter.consultation@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk , by post to HMRC Charter Team, Room 3E/02, 100 Parliament Street, London SW1A 2BQ or by fax to 020 7147 0391.
