Emails from ChRIS @ HMRC
Whenever a tax return is successfully submitted over the internet to HMRC, ChRIS sends a congratulatory email. The acronym ChRIS actually stands for Channel Routing Interface Service.
The ICAEW is reporting that ChRIS has been sending out numerous reminders to accountants that a VAT online authorisation code that has been posted to a client has not been activated and is about to expire. In most cases the authorisation code has been activated so the message from ChRIS is without foundation. However, in some cases ChRIS is correct and the code has not been activated and will expire in a few days, in which case you need to start the authorisation process all over again.
It is not possible to tell only from the emails which are based on true information and which are not. You need to check the client name and reference number in the email from ChRIS against your own records.
