Customs – Binding tariff changes
HMRC have issued a new ‘Customs information paper’ which is relevant to all businesses involved with either the import or export of goods. With effect from 18 August 2010 the online binding tariff information (BTI) rulings service has been enhanced.
The changes will allow users of the online system to access their BTI rulings electronically as well as offering access to a display and print function. This means that BTI rulings that have been accepted by the EU Commission database can be selected, displayed and printed.
Prior to this change a request for a BTI ruling could be submitted online but the requested ruling was sent by post. This change should result in a faster turnaround in requests for BTI rulings being processed. Businesses that wish to register to use the eBTI service and are not currently registered should do so through the Government Gateway website.
