Currency codes for importers & exporters
HMRC have issued an update relevant to importers, exporters and clearing agents completing Customs entry forms (known as the SAD or C88 form) and subsequent entries on the Customs Computer system (CHIEF) for handling imports.
The change relates to the three-letter code used for identifying currency to ensure that it is in line with the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) classifications. HMRC have identified 12 countries where the current code held on the CHIEF system is not in line with the ISO classifications. A number of country and currency names are also being updated.
From 1 January 2010, when completing Box 22 on the SAD entry declaration, the following currency codes will apply. The new codes or country/currency names should not be used until then.
