Charities online update
A new reporting system for charities called Charities Online went live on 22 April 2013. The online system replaced the old R68(i) Gift Aid and tax repayments claims paper form. Charities that submit claims online can expect to be paid faster. HMRC no longer accepts Gift Aid repayment claims on R68i forms and charities will be required to use the Charities Online service to make claims.
A recent HMRC press release highlighted that more than 50,000 charities have now signed up to use the online service. These charities have so far received over £380 million in Gift Aid repayments through Charities Online since the system was launched.
Nicky Morgan, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, said:
‘The government values the important work of charities in our society, and we want charities to maximise their donations. In 2013 charities and their donors received £4 billion in dedicated tax reliefs from the government.’
Charities that still need to register should do so as soon as possible as it can take up to 15 working days for an application to use the Charities Online system to be processed.
A paper form (ChR1) is available for charities without access to the internet to submit a claim. The form replaces the R68(i) form.
