Authorised Economic Operators update
HMRC have issued an update aimed at businesses which are either seeking to become Authorised Economic Operators (AEO) or already have that status.
AEO is a recognised quality mark of a business’s Customs control and operating procedures. Businesses that are actively involved in international trade and hold the AEO standard can, in many cases, fast-track shipments by reducing the number of safety and security checks performed by HMRC and other EU tax authorities. The AEO status became effective from 1 January 2008 and the status is recognised across all EU member states.
This update includes a new draft guidance book which has been published by HMRC. Copies of the guidance are available by sending an email request toAEOTeam@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.
The AEO team is also relocating and from 27 July 2009 will be based at:
HMRC AEO Central Site
Fitz Roy House
Castle Meadow Road
Nottingham
NG2 1AB
Telephone: 0845 001 0089
