Online tax advice for dentists
A new online tax guide designed specifically for dentists has been launched by HMRC. The guide was published following a HMRC campaign that targeted non-compliant dentists and doctors and has been developed to ensure that dentists are properly aware of their responsibilities.
The module includes an overview of National Insurance Contributions, guidance on record keeping, business expenses, help for newly-qualified dentists, information on becoming an employer and VAT.
Launching the new online tax guide, HMRC’s Mike Purvis said:
‘The e-learning tutorial is available online so that dentists can read it in their own time, when it is convenient. It’s in small sections, so doesn’t need to be read all at once. Dentists can read as little or as much as they like, and return to it as often as they need to, whenever it suits them.’
The HMRC disclosure opportunity for dentists and doctors resulted in more than 1,500 medical professionals paying in excess of £10 million in unpaid tax and penalties voluntarily. This included a dentist who paid more than £300,000 and a doctor who paid more than £1 million.
