Changes to HMRC bank details
HMRC is to move its banking business from Citibank and RBS to Barclays following a new tender for the provision of banking services to the Government. The new arrangements will begin in February 2016 but most taxpayers paying their bills electronically will be unaffected and will not need to make any changes to their arrangements.
HMRC is advising taxpayers that continue to make payments using Bank Giro or Transcash payslips to consider other ways of making payments, particularly electronic payments. The change will also affect taxpayers making payments from overseas as they will need to use a new International Bank Account Number (IBAN) hen making payments through their bank. The IBAN contains extra information to help overseas banks identify the correct account for payments.
The new banking details will be published on www.gov.uk/hmrc prior to February 2016. HMRC has announced that anyone likely to be affected by the changes will be contacted directly. Details of current bank account numbers for all taxes can be found on correspondence from HMRC or atwww.gov.uk/topic/dealing-with-hmrc/paying-hmrc
