PAYE – HMRC’s new systems
HMRC have issued an update on the introduction of a new PAYE software system designed to merge PAYE data held on 12 separate regional databases. This also enables HMRC to establish a single customer record for all PAYE pay and tax details. The major upgrades have now been completed and HMRC is working to update the system.
Taxpayers and employers may still notice delays to normal service levels whilst outstanding enquiries and data submissions received during the transition between the old and new systems are completed.
There are also 3 known issues that will affect accountants operating PAYE schemes for clients as a result of the new system:
- In some cases the correct format of agents’ reference numbers cannot be entered. HMRC are working on this issue.
- A tax calculation will not be issued to any agent where there is also a person acting in some other capacity (for example, with power of attorney). Copies can be obtained by phone.
- There may also be cases where an agent receives a copy of a P2 notice of code number for a client, even where this service is not required. HMRC are working on a solution to stop this.
