Electronic PAYE deadline Friday 21st January
The deadline for making electronic PAYE payments to HMRC this month is Friday 21st January.
The deadline is normally the 22nd of the month and when a payment is made electronically, a payment on the day usually suffices. However, where the due date falls on a non-banking day (weekend or bank holidays) HMRC must have received cleared funds by the last bank working day before the 22nd.
This advice is particularly relevant this month i.e. for electronic payments due on 22 January 2011
Penalties apply to both employers and contractors that do not pay PAYE on time and will apply to tax, National Insurance contributions (NICs), Construction Industry Scheme deductions and Student Loan deductions. HMRC will not usually charge a penalty where only one late payment was made in a tax year and the payment was no more than six months late.
