Updated rogues picture gallery
HMRC has added a £100m VAT fraudster to the rogues picture gallery and is asking for members of the public to help find some of the country’s most wanted tax criminals. The gallery which is published on HMRC’s flickr channel includes pictures of HMRC’s Most Wanted and includes details of their crimes and the amount of tax which has been evaded.
There are now 34 fraudsters identified in the gallery, most are still wanted although some have been caught and jailed.
The individuals include one woman and some of whom have been found guilty of crimes including large-scale VAT fraud, money laundering and the smuggling of millions of counterfeit cigarettes. The list also includes some individuals where there is a warrant for their arrest including a man wanted for his role in a large scale VAT fraud in the region of £156 million who was sentenced to six years in his absence in March 2005 and a warrant issued for his arrest.
Members of the public can contact HMRC’s Customs, Excise and VAT fraud section by phone, email or post. Alternatively, the Crimestoppers website can also be used to report leads anonymously. The mug shots are available to view online atwww.flickr.com/photos/hmrcgovuk
