VAT returns – compulsory online filing
From 1 April 2010 HMRC will begin phasing out the use of paper VAT returns. From this date, all newly VAT registered businesses as well as all VAT registered business with a turnover exceeding £100,000 will be required to file VAT returns and make payments online.
For the remaining VAT registered businesses the option to continue filing paper returns will remain but will be reviewed prior to 2012.
HMRC are running nationwide sessions to demonstrate to businesses how to enrol for VAT online and other online services. Events have so far been scheduled for:
