Tax payment delays caused by volcanic ash disruption
HMRC have issued a special update following the eruption of the Icelandic volcano and the subsequent ash cloud which has caused chaos to the UK skies and many businesses.
Businesses that have issues in making tax, national Insurance, VAT or other payments as a result of the problems caused by the volcanic ash are advised to contact HMRC’s business payment support service (BPSS) as soon as possible.
HMRC have previously confirmed that they will not charge additional late payment surcharges in relation to any specific arrangements made using this service. The BPSS generally deals with businesses suffering during the economic downturn and is now being used to also help deal with the problems concerned from the volcanic ash.
The BPSS helpline can be contacted on 0845 302 1435 from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 4pm at weekends.
