Tax credits renewal
Families and individuals who receive tax credits should have renewed their claims by 31 July 2010. Claimants who did not renew on-time may have their payments stopped and will be sent a statement from HMRC which will detail if they are due or owe tax credits.
HMRC are currently experiencing delays of up to six weeks in processing renewal claims and claimants will receive correspondence from the tax credits office once a renewal has been processed. Tax credit payments will continue if a valid renewal was made by the 31 July 2010 deadline.
Claimants should contact the tax credit helpline if more than six weeks have elapsed since a claim has been submitted or if any information on the award notice is incorrect, wrong or missing.
Claims will have been automatically renewed for claimants who received a ‘nil’ award or only the full family element of the child tax credit. Any further changes which take place during the year should be notified to HMRC immediately, such as significant changes in salary or the birth of a new child.
