Stamp Duty pages on HMRC website
HMRC have added new content to the stamp taxes pages on their website. The new pages provide additional information and guidance on:
- Stamp Duty Reserve Tax (SDRT); and
- Stamp Duty
Both of these taxes mainly relate to the purchase of shares. SDRT is paid where shares and securities are purchased through the stock market or via a stock broker whilst stamp duty is usually levied for paper share transactions and some historic property transactions.
The SDRT pages include sections of introductory guidance, reliefs and exemptions, making payments, calculating tax due and penalty rules.
The stamp duty pages include a ‘getting started’ section as well as information on shares, land transfers, reliefs and exemptions, making payments, calculating tax due and penalty rules.
This update is part of a rolling program by HMRC to update website content.
