New Tax Codes
From 16 February 2009, HMRC are issuing P9 notices to businesses. P9 notices are used to confirm the new tax codes which must be used for certain employees from 6 April 2009. HMRC are issuing P9 notices electronically from 16 – 23 February and businesses should check that a notice has been received.
Agents who use HMRC’s website to check P9’s should review their online pages regularly. The P9’s will only be available online for seven days from the time the notices are uploaded by HMRC.
Businesses will not receive a code for all employees. The P9X which is included on the Employer CD-Rom includes instructions as to how to change the tax code for other employees in time for the start of the next tax year.
