HMRC launches a Twitter account
HMRC began trialling the use of Twitter, in the lead up to the 31 January Self Assessment deadline, with the username @hmrcgovuk. The twitter account is managed by the HMRC Communications and Marketing team on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs.
Twitter followers can expect 1-2 tweets each day covering information about HMRC and tax, including news, publications, web content, consultations, speeches and publicity campaigns.
HMRC cannot, for obvious reasons, discuss the tax affairs of individual taxpayers over Twitter. HMRC also stress that they cannot accept tweets as notification in respect of a twitter user’s tax affairs.
The HMRC Twitter account will generally be updated and monitored during office hours only, Monday to Friday.
