HMRC Fraudulent emails
HMRC have become aware of a new scam email targeting recipients to disclose payment and personal details. This particular email scam is entitled National Insurance Contributions and states that a payment has not been made.
This is not a genuine HMRC message and should be disregarded. It is a ‘phishing’ exercise and uses bogus e-mails and websites to trick recipients into supplying confidential or personal information.
The ‘phishing’emails are being sent from inside the UK and around the world. HMRC in liaison with law enforcement agencies have shut down spam networks in the UK, Korea, USA and Thailand but the problem of fraudulent emails continues.
