HMRC agent account managers
Since 2007, HMRC have been offering the services of Agent Account Managers (AAMs). This service was originally run on a trial basis as a response to concerns about the difficulties agents faced in getting direct help with service problems. The AAMs have been providing education and support concerning HMRC services as well as direct help on difficult cases when agents have exhausted all normal avenues.
In March 2010, additional funding was secured to expand the AAM project and the team now has 40 AAMs based throughout the UK.
The AAM team provides the following services for tax agents and advisers:
- A streamlined process to resolve ongoing problems more quickly called the Agents’ Issue Resolution Service.
- Invitations to HMRC educational events.
- Advance notice of HMRC educational products.
Agents who wish to avail of this service must usually register by completing an online user registration form. HMRC are currently telephoning tax agents and advisers to explain what services the team provides and the benefits for agents and their clients. Agents can register for AAM services during the call.
