Fraudulent emails from ‘HMRC’
HMRC have announced that they are aware of new fraudulent emails being sent to taxpayers. In this latest email, taxpayers are offered a tax rebate. Genuine correspondence from HMRC in relation to tax rebates is not issued by email and payments are not made by HM Treasury contrary to the suggestion in the scam email.
HMRC are keen to remind taxpayers that should they receive any email that appears to be fraudulent it is important not to provide any information to the sender. Taxpayers should also ensure that they do follow links or open attachments within the emails. HMRC requests that any emails which appear to be fraudulent are emailed to the following firstname.lastname@example.org
