Errors on the employer cd-rom
HMRC have identified a number of errors on the the Employer CD-ROM 2010 which was sent to businesses in February. The errors apply only to the Employer CD-ROM February edition.
Employers may have encountered a problem where they were asked to run the Diagnostic Tool installed with the Employer CD-ROM. There is an issue with the Employer CD-ROM 2010 which may cause the Data Transfer Utility from the 2009 CD-ROM not to work. HMRC have advised affected users to continue using the 2009 CD-ROM. It is expected that HMRC will issue further guidance shortly.
The majority of other problems relating to the diagnostic tool are, according to HMRC, usually solved by either closing the CD-ROM and then reopening it and returning to the function you were using when the difficulty arose or checking that your firewall has the correct ‘exception rules created’.
There is also an issue with the P11 calculator on the CD-ROM 2009. An error message appears when the CD-ROM 2010 is installed in either of the two circumstances below:
- If a new employee was added with a P45 (Part 3) to the database during 2009-10 the P45 data will be incorrectly deleted from the P11 Calculator if the employer received a P6 from HMRC and entered the new code in the P11 calculator and if the previous pay and tax field on the P6 was blank. Employers can manually correct the error only with agreement by the affected employee.
- The error message may appear incorrectly where employers have added previous pay and tax via the View/Edit screen on the P11 Calculator on the 2009 disk. If the previous pay and tax figures are still visible on the P11, the figures have not been deleted and are correct. The error message should be ignored.
