Don’t want an annual tax summary?
HMRC’s annual tax summary shows individual taxpayers how much income tax and national insurance contributions they paid and includes a table and chart to show how this contributes to different areas of public expenditure, such as health, welfare, education and defence. The summaries are mailed annually.
An estimated 29 million UK taxpayers receive a personalised summary. Taxpayers do not receive a personal tax summary if they have paid no income tax or if information is outstanding.
Taxpayers that no longer wish to receive an annual tax summary can now complete an online form or send an email to HMRC to request their name be removed from the mailing list. Your date of birth and national insurance number are required to complete the form. The national insurance number is made up of 2 letters followed by 6 numbers and 1 letter, like QQ123456A. It can be found on documentation including your payslip, P60 or tax return.
HMRC makes it clear that the tax summaries are for information purposes only and neither taxpayers nor agents are required to take any action based on the contents of the summary. The summaries are mailed by HMRC and are also available online.
