Contacting HMRC contact centres
HMRC have confirmed that new contact centre opening hours are to be introduced from 29 November 2010. HMRC have said that the change has been put in place to allow staff to answer more telephone calls during busy periods.
The main change is that the telephone contact centres willno longer open on Sundays. HMRC found that Sunday opening requires 4.9% (530) of staff resource but handle just 1.2% of call volume.
HMRC plan to redeploy more staff to peak periods throughout the rest of the week. This will mean that the opening hours for the vast majority of HMRC’s contact centres will be from:
Monday to Friday 8am – 8pm
Saturday 9am – 4pm
