Changing customs law – a questionnaire for business
HMRC is seeking feedback especially from small businesses on the prospective impact of the EU Modernised Customs Code (MCC). HMRC intend to recommend changes to the UK law to ensure it is consistent with the MCC when it comes into full effect in 2013. HMRC have drawn up a questionnaire to help in an initial analysis of the potential impact of such changes on business.
HMRC plan to remove national provisions which duplicate directly applicable European provisions or do not support the MCC. HMRC will update remaining provisions to ensure that they are effective, easily understood and appropriate for modern trade procedures. HMRC aim to make it easier to comply with legislation.
Although HMRC specifically want to target small businesses (those with less than 20 staff), it also needs to get an idea of the effect across the entire trading community, so is asking businesses to complete the questionnaire even if they are a large or medium-sized company.
Please let us know if you would like to complete HMRC’s questionnaire to assist the project.
