Budget 2010 – Tobacco Products Duty
The duty rates on tobacco prices have increased again ensuring that consumers will pay more for tobacco products including cigarettes, cigars, hand-rolling tobacco, other smoking tobacco and chewing tobacco. The duty increase of 1% takes effect from 6pm on 24 March 2010.
The new rates of duty are as follows:
- cigarettes: an amount equal to 24% of the retail price plus £119.03 per thousand cigarettes
- cigars: £180.28 per kilogram
- hand-rolling tobacco: £129.59 per kilogram
- other smoking tobacco and chewing tobacco: £79.26 per kilogram.
